The Exiles: Exiled during the Cataclysm Wars, this civilization adapted to life on the galaxy's outer rims using advanced Orbital technology. These Orbitals function as ships and score points at the end of the game. The Exiles' superior Orbital design creates friction with the Council as they demand full membership.

The Rho Indi Syndicate: Born from the aftermath of the Terran-Hegemony War, this ruthless faction controls The Desolation, a lawless sector. Known for stealth attacks and unpredictability, the Syndicate gains extra Ship activations, earns money from destroyed ships, and doesn't score negative points for being the Traitor.

The Second Dawn editions feature balance tweaks, including adjustments to starting resources and sectors.
