Each game board represents a treasure map covered with landmarks and the players' task is to move their pirates from the ships, one step at a time, until they together form two straight lines that intersect at the treasure.
To begin the adventure, all the square tiles with location symbols are placed in the bag and the string is pulled tight so that you cannot see which tile to take, then each player chooses a game board and one of the tokens that has a treasure chest and takes a set of 10 pirate tokens. The treasure chest must be placed on one of the four gray squares in the center of the island, and the symbol on the chest must match the one on the square. Players then place their pirates in groups of two or three on the pirate ships in the four corners of the game board. During the game, the active player draws a location tile from the bag, chooses which side of the tile to use, and says the chosen location symbol out loud. All players then have the opportunity to move one of their pirate tokens one step to a square marked with this symbol, PROVIDED that the square is directly next to the pirate token in a straight or diagonal line and that there is no other token on this square.
To make the game even more exciting, there are four special tiles in addition to the eight regular symbols on the location tiles. The tile with a spyglass lets the active player choose which location symbol they want, while the three tiles with a crocodile force all other players to move one of their pirate tokens away from the area of the same color as the crocodile's background (gray mountain, green jungle, or yellow beach) and one step back towards the beach or onto the ship. When all players have moved one of their tokens, the token is put aside and it is the next player's turn to draw a token from the bag. You have to be smart in your choice of pieces to move and strategically plan your moves to use as few moves as possible while disrupting your opponents. The game continues until one player manages to place all ten of their pirates in two intersecting lines from the treasure chest and is thus declared the winner.
