In the midst of the Cold War, in 1984 to be exact, Games' Designers Workshop released Twilight: 2000, a post-apocalyptic role-playing game set in the ruins of World War III that broke out in the late 90s. The game was intended to be a depiction of a possible future.
Today, we can note with considerable joy that GDW were not prophetic with their game, but Swedish publisher Fria Ligan (Free League) has nostalgically looked back at this time and given us a new version of Twilight: 2000. The action takes place in a world where the Soviet Union did not fall along with the Berlin Wall, where the Third World War broke out in 1998, where soldiers try to survive in the ruins after the Third World War that never was.
As usual, Fria Ligan uses its popular Year Zero engine to power the game. Year Zero has already proven itself in games such as Tales From the Loop, Vaesen, Forgotten Lands, Alien and Walking Dead Universe, where its focus on storytelling over rules led to great success. In this particular case, however, they have been faithful to the original, with a little extra focus on rules for conflicts and armed confrontations.
